Understanding the IDCIYMI-1.0 License Proposal
What is IDCIYMI?
IDCIYMI stands for "I Don't Care If You Mod It." It is a permissive open-source license created in 2026 to simplify the relationship between creators and contributors. It is based on the legal framework of the MIT License but updated for a social, remix-heavy developer culture.
Project Status: 2026 Review
This license is currently under review by the Open Source Initiative (OSI). Until approval is finalized, this license should be considered a "proposed" legal document. We aim to provide a standard that is legally robust while remaining human-readable.
Who is it for?
- Individual Developers: Who want to encourage others to build on their work without fear.
- Hobbyists: Who want a simple way to say "Go ahead and change it!"
- The Remix Culture: Those who believe software is best when it is modified and improved by the community.
Stewardship
The IDCIYMI license is maintained and stewarded by Bernardo Hora. As the steward, Bernardo is responsible for managing the legal text and responding to community feedback during the 2026 OSI review process.
